You Are My Home Lyrics
You Are My Home
There is a child inside my heart tonightNo one can see that child but you
If I hold on to you too tight, you understand
You hold me too
You are the one who reaches through the dark
When I'm afraid, you warm the air
And, when I close my eyes to sleep
You are my peace, you are my prayer
You are my home
You make me strong
And in this world of strangers
I belong to someone
You are all I know
You're all I have
I won't let go
Others may leave, but you will still be there
Touching the tears that fill my eyes
When I am lost, you are my light
You are the love that never dies
You are my home
You make me strong
And in this world of strangers
I belong to someone
You are all I know
You're all I have
I need you so
I will not walk away from you!
I will not let you go!
You're the only home I'll ever know
You are my home
You make me strong
And in this world of strangers
I belong to someone
You are all I know
You're all I have
I need you so
I won't let go
You are my home
Song Overview
Personal Review
The first time I heard You Are My Home—the Lyrics floating above sly strings—I was wedged between tuxedo rentals at a friend’s wedding expo. Someone hit play on the 1992 Peabo Bryson / Linda Eder single, and the room softened like fresh-baked brioche. Years later, the 1998 Broadway cast recording brought a new tenderness: Christine Andreas and Gilles Chiasson trade promises as if the guillotine were ticking behind the curtain. The track has since become my ballast on long flights; one repeat and the armrest feels like familiar hands.

Songs Exploring Themes of Family & Belonging
While Marguerite leans on Armand, Elphaba and Glinda’s “For Good” (Wicked) frames chosen family—two outsiders soldering identity through friendship. The harmonic overlap on “Because I knew you…” mirrors You Are My Home’s unison chorus, but without the menace of prison bars.
Meanwhile, “No One Is Alone” (Into the Woods) whispers guidance instead of belting reassurance; Sondheim’s fractured counterpoint captures uncertainty where Wildhorn opts for steadfast pulse.
In contrast, “Dear Theodosia” (Hamilton) speaks parent-to-child. Its folk-tinged simplicity shows that belonging can be whispered, not proclaimed, yet the emotional bedrock—I have you, therefore I endure—matches the St. Just siblings beat for beat.
