Chess in Concert [LIVE] Musical Lyrics

The original musical was released in 1986 on the West End and lasted for 3 years, under the direction of Trevor Nunn. The scene was carried out in the form of large screens on the walls, and the floor was designed as a chessboard, where white cells were glowing.

During production, the musical won one award of Critics' Circle Theatre as the best show in 1986. Actors were: A. Head, P. Karrie. E. Paige, D. Burt, T. Körberg, R. Jones, M. Head, G. Renihan & S. McCarthy. The scene was so richly decorated that it adopted the bigger part of the scenery budget of USD 12 million, the overall amount.

April 1989 – closing of the show in the West End, after which it moved to the USA, where its creators completely redone all the musical’s parts, except of the backbone. It is a pity that it was not at all a successful show there, performed out only 60+ plays and being closed. According to one of the versions, it happened because the script was reworked so that earlier American won the world title from the representative of the Communist regime and after the alteration, the public of the United States saw a mirrored version – where commy won from the representative of democracy. And the public did not like it.
