Wicked description

The libretto is based on the eponymous novel by G. Maguire, the pre-history of series of books ‘Wizard of Oz’. The music and lyrics were written by S. L. Schwartz and W. Holzman was responsible for the libretto. Creators in 1995 were inspired by the novel that asked for scenic implementation. The product has already been purchased by the studio ‘Universal Pictures’ for the film adaptation. Bringing the producer from ‘Universal Pictures’ to work made it possible to make expensive and bright performance, loved by the audience. Musical could recoup in 15 months after successful start of the show, and all subsequent years it consistently brought profit to creators both on Broadway and on the other stages.

Scriptwriters reinterpreted the original plot, making the Sorceress neighbors in their educational institution. For recognition of the plot and characters, in the foundation were laid some musical themes of the same-named movie of 1939. Preparatory work for the show began in the early 2000s. J. Mantello joined the team as co-director; choreographer was W. L. Cilento, a winner of many Tony Awards. E. Lee managed to make a beautiful design, positively characterized by all the critics, without exception.

From the opening night in 2004, Broadway production collected more than half a million dollars every week, making it pretty nice grossing thing. The theatrical had received three Tonies (out of ten), 6 Drama Desks and many other awards. Nice revenues were demonstrated by British, Australian, German and Japanese shows, along with performances in Copenhagen, Helsinki and Amsterdam.
