Luck Runs Out [Cut version] Lyrics
Luck Runs Out [Cut version]
[EURYLOCHUS]Don't forget how dangerous the gods are
[ODYSSEUS]
Have faith, friend, we've come this far
[EURYLOCHUS, EURYLOCHUS & CREW]
Yes, but how much longer 'til your luck runs out?
How much longer 'til the show goes south?
How much longer 'til we all fall down?
You rely on wit and people die on it, woah
[ODYSSEUS]
I still believe in goodness
I still believe that we could be kind
Lead with the heart and see what starts
Now, let me depart with some peace of mind
[EURYLOCHUS & CREW]
How much longer 'til your luck runs out
How much longer 'til the show goes south
How much longer 'til we all fall down
You rely on wit and people die on it
Woah
[EURYLOCHUS, spoken]
What is this?
[POSEIDON]
An offer that can’t be refused
A chance you can’t lose
Declining aligns you with certain doom
[EURYLOCHUS]
Who are you?
[POSEIDON]
You’ll know when you’re ready
An offer
Take orders from me
You’ll do the right thing and keep those you love right under your wing
[EURYLOCHUS]
Why choose me?
[POSEIDON]
Wouldn’t you like to be king?
Luck Runs Out once included a now-scrapped section in which Poseidon reveals himself to Eurylochus and manipulates him into opening Aeolus’ wind bag. This moment was meant to deepen Eurylochus' role as a foil to Odysseus while giving Poseidon a more active hand in sabotaging the crew’s journey.
However, this segment was ultimately cut. At the time it would have occurred, the bag of winds had yet to be introduced into the narrative, making the scene feel confusing and out of place. Additionally, Jorge Rivera-Herrans later chose to reframe Poseidon—not as a whispering manipulator, but as a looming, direct threat whose fury is unmistakable and impossible to ignore.
Though the idea was abandoned, it offers a fascinating look into early concepts for the gods' involvement and how EPIC's tone and structure were refined over time.
