About the "We Will Rock You" Stage Show


Release date: 2002

Script written by B. Elton, B. May and R. Taylor. Queen band’s songs are used in the show, as well as the name of one of the two protagonists was a word from their Bohemian Rhapsody song. The lyrics were composed by B. Elton. Try-outs began in the Dominion Theatre in April 2002. Production went in the West End from May 2002 to May 2014 and gave there a tremendous 4,600 performances. Production was carried out by director C. Renshaw and choreographer A. Phillips. In the show were involved such actors: T. Vincent, H. J. Fox, S. D. Clarke, N. Planer, N. Clauzel, K. Ellis, M. Ayesa, M. Murray, B. Edwards, R. Tucker, L. Bowden, A. Coutts, O. Tompsett & R. Wooding. From August 2003 to March 2004, the Regent Theatre hosted an Australian production. This show had cast: M. Falzon, K. Hoolihan, A. Crummer, A. Harrison, D. Fletcher & R. Grubb. From April 2004 to August 2005 in Australia started 1st tour, including a Japan show in Tokyo's Shinjuku Koma Theatre from May to August 2005. In 2006, the 2nd Australian tour started. Preliminaries for American productions began in August 2004 in the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. The histrionics were exhibited from September 2004 to November 2005. The actors were following: T. Vincent, J. Wooten, K. Sheikh, A. Vincent, P. Russo & D. Crawford. In March 2009, Manchester Palace Theatre hosted the beginning of 1st UK tour. The spectacular involved: A. Gaumond, S. French-Ellis, B. Edwards, J. Wilkes, K. Kennedy & G. Hagen. In 2010-2011, the 2nd UK tour was started. In October 2013, the 1st North American tour began. Production took place in 30 cities. There were 298 performances shown. The director in the US was Ben Elton, choreographer – Arlene Phillips. In the musical participated: B. J. Crum, P. J. Griffith, J. Arnold, J. Zirilli & R. Lewis. Production was carried out in Spain, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, Sweden, Norway and other countries.

20th Anniversary UK Tour (2022).

The hit Queen musical toured the UK to mark its twentieth anniversary.

  • Kick-off: Kings Theatre, Portsmouth, 7 February 2022.
  • Closing: Palace Theatre, Manchester, 10 September 2022.
  • Director: Ben Elton.
  • Reprised roles: Ian McIntosh and Elena Skye as Galileo and Scaramouche.
  • Brenda Edwards remained as Killer Queen throughout.

West End Revival at London Coliseum (2023).

A fresh West End revival ran from 2 June to 27 August 2023 for twelve weeks.

  • Directed by Ben Elton.
  • Choreography by Jacob Fearey.
  • Ian McIntosh and Elena Skye reprised the lead roles.
  • New cast: Lee Mead as Khashoggi and Christine Allado as Meat.
  • Ben Elton made his stage debut as Rebel Leader.

New Spanish Production (2021).

A Spanish-language production opened at Gran Teatro Príncipe Pío on 24 November 2021.

This Madrid revival renewed the show’s appeal in Spain.

Cancelled Australasian Arena Tour (2023–2024).

An all-new arena tour for Australia scheduled for 2023–2024 was cancelled.

The tour would have featured over 500 performers including Courtney Act.

Legal disputes forced the cancellation in October 2022.
