(A spot on LEROY, following him down to the footlights. Behind him, the COMPANY is still frozen in mid-battle with the TOUGHS. LEROY glances at them, then addresses the audience.)
[LEROY]

(He looks fondly at his top hat; then, to the CONDUCTOR:)

(He tosses it to the CONDUCTOR.)

(A segment of the fight comes alive, as a COUPLE of the COMPANY give the coup de grace to one of the TOUGHS.)
And that!
(Another victorious coup by the COMPANY, as another TOUGH is routed. These segments continue until the final one, when...)
And that!
(LEROY wades into the fight, fists flying, jostled backward against DOYLE. They wheel, eyes meeting. A moment, and they turn, back to back, each punching a remaining TOUGH off into the wings. The COMPANY stands, battered and breathless. SATIN enters, crossing slowly to LEROY and DOYLE. She takes LEROY's arm, then DOYLE's, turns to the audience.)
[SATIN]
This must be the place
It's got to start
[DOYLE]
A lot to start fighting for
[LEROY]

To fin'lly draw the line
[MAYBELLE]

To say
"This place is
Mine"
(There's a moment as they realize the implications of this victory. Then, slowly but deliberately, a KNOCKABOUT crosses over the color line, taking a place beside MAYBELLE.)

(LINETTE crosses, taking a place beside SOLLY.)

(One by one, the BLACKS and WHITES in the company integrate, forming a line of mixed color across the stage, as they sing.)
