Seussical musical description

The musical is a joint project of L. Ahrens & S. Flaherty. It is based on fairy tales and stories of famous writer Dr. Seuss. In particular, we are talking about such works as the ‘Horton Hears a Who!’, ‘Horton Hatches the Egg’ & ‘Miss Gertrude McFuzz’. All the stories are connected together and have a single unique story.

The first Broadway staging of the show was held in November 2000. Richard Rodgers Theatre was chosen as the venue, named in honor of the great American composer. During its runtime, audience saw 198 demonstrated performances and 34 previews. The official closure date was in May 2001. The creation has received many positive reviews from critics. Successful appearance on Broadway was the start of two national tours and one UK tour. In 2007, the world saw the off-Broadway version of the musical. And in 2012, it appeared in the West End.

Director of staging was F. Galati, choreographer – Kathleen Marshall. The latter is the sister of the famous choreographer R. Marshall (‘Chicago’, ‘Memoirs Of A Geisha’, ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’). The cast included: K. Chamberlin, A. B. Hall, J. LaManna, M. Pawk & D. Shiner. On the creation of production worked director D. Holcenberg, scenic designer E. Lee, costume designer W. I. Long and lightning designer N. Katz. In 2001, production received a Tony Award nomination and four nominations for the Drama Desk. In particular, the representatives of these institutions noted the premium level of acting abilities of Kevin Chamberlin. Unfortunately, the musical did not manage to win at least one award.
